Diều tai đen có lông chủ đạo tối màu, mỏ và chân đen. Lông đầu và cổ nhạt màu hơn nhưng có mảng đen sau mắt. Thân trên có lông màu nâu và thân dưới màu nâu nhạt. Chim có đuôi hơi chẻ với lông dưới đuôi trắng. Chim trống và chim mái tương đối giống nhau.

Description:

Black-eared kite generally has dark plumage, black bill and feet. It’s head and neck are paler with the darker patches behind their eyes. The upper plumage is brown and the lower parts of the body are pale brown. It has lightly forked tailed with white undertail. Both sexes are similar.

Diều tai đen có thể là loài chim ăn thịt số lượng nhiều nhất trên thế giới, chúng thường tạo thành nhóm lớn khi săn mồi (đặc biệt vào mùa đông). Diều tai đen rất dễ quan sát tại đảo Cát Bà.
