Hút mật lưng đen là loài hút mật có kích thước trung bình (khoảng 13 cm). Chim trống phần lớn tối màu nhưng nổi bật với họng và ngực trên ánh đồng, đỉnh đầu và vai màu xanh ánh kim, má đen. Chim mái tương tự như các loài khác có thân trên màu xanh olive và thân dưới màu vàng.

Description:

Copper-throated sunbird is medium sized species in sunbird group (about 13 cm). Male has dark plumage with iridescent copper-red throat and upper breast, metallic green crown and shoulder-patch and black head sides. Female is similar to other sunbird female with olive-green above and yellowish below.
