Hoãng nam bộ (mễn) với kính thước từ 45 -70 cm là môt loài hươu nhỏ nhất trên thế giới. Cơ thể hoãng nam bộ phủ màu đỏ nâu phần dưới đuôi màu trắng.  Con đực có sừng thẳng, nanh dài và dễ nhìn. Con cái không có sừng (nhưng có lông giống như sừng ở trên đỉnh đầu) và nanh của nó nhỏ và gần như nằm trọng trong môi dưới. Hoãng nam bộ còn được gọi là “hươu sủa” do âm thanh báo động nó kêu như là tiếng sủa của con chó nhỏ, khi nó thấy kẻ săn mồi hoặc mối nguy hiểm khác ở gần.

Description:

Southern Red Muntjac (Muntiacus muntjac) with sizes ranging between 45 to 70 cm, is one of the smallest species of deer on earth. It’s body is rusty color, the underside of tail measures  is white. Male has small and straight antlers, long and clearly visible canines. Female doesn’t have antlers (instead, they have a patch of fur on top of the bony knobs on their head) and their canines are small and mostly covered by their upper lip. Southern Red Munjtac is also called ‘barking deer’ due to the alarm call they make when a predator or other threat is nearby – the call sounds like the piercing bark of a small dog.
