Vành khuyên Nhật bản được đặt tên từ vòng trắng nổi bật xung quanh mắt. Lưng chim có màu xanh olive và phần dưới màu xanh nhạt. Chân và mỏ có màu nâu đen, Đầu màu xanh và cổ màu vàng, cánh màu nâu đậm nhưng phần ngoài màu xanh.

The Japanese white-eye derives it’s name from the distinctive white eye-ring. It is olive green on its back, and is pale green on its underside. Its feet, legs, and bill range from black to brown. It has a green forehead and a yellow throat. Its wings are dark brown, but outlined in green.
